Statistical Evaluation of Prognosis in Cancer (ONCOSTEP) |
| |
This project intends to make
use of the data being collected and create a European Prognostic Index for
prediction of the outcome of breast cancers.
The methodology designed to carry out this work will also have huge
potential in similar evaluations of many other diseases.
Project objectives are:
To develop statistical methodology that will generate robust and
accurate prognostic models in multifactorial diseases
To use the methodology to provide a Gold Standard in the shape of a European Prognostic
Index (EPI) to determine prognosis in the individual woman diagnosed with primary
breast cancer.
The work underlying the development and validation of the index is itself of great
importance and will increase the understanding of the interplay of multiple
factors in complex models for survival data.
The improved methodology will be applicable in other cancers and in
multifactorial diseases other than cancer.
It will be actively promoted to biostatisticians in other multifactorial
disease areas and will unlock much valuable data generated in these areas,
giving it direct value to patients through more accurate disease prognosis and
better targeted treatment.
